I Got a Dog (kind of)

My friends say the green bow makes him look like less of a "Hank." I disagree.

While nearly nine months of living beneath a tiny mountain, sans stores, restaurants or anonymity has plenty of advantages, I'm beginning to feel a bit of stirring in my soul. I'm excited for summer to begin and to be with the people who I miss and love. (By the way, I don't really carry him around like that.)

I've had a little dog around for a few weeks now. While I never planned on keeping him, and I still contend that he's not really mine, I do feed him whenever he comes pawing at my door and I let him sleep in my entry way many nights. I named him Hank and I've decided that I'll continue to take care of him while I'm here. My friends laugh at Hank's gourmet concoctions of baked salmon and brown rice, and while my treatment of him might be a little over the top, he's been great company for me in these final weeks - and let's be honest, there is no shortage of salmon at my house.

That is the cutest dog - how did he survive without you. You need to keep him. I'm serious. If you don't, I'll take him.

Oh - I love Hank! You definitely need to keep him. I want to meet him when I come in November. Bring him to the OC while you are traveling around the world this summer and then take him back up to the bush. Although that might scar him for life...bring him to Denver instead!

Dear Lida,

If Hank came to Sawbill, I would throw over all my plans and ambitions and move there just to pet him.

Love,

molly.
