We have heat, broken pipes and hundreds of dollars in bottled water. Things could always be worse.

- In August of 2008 I moved from New York City to rural Alaska. I teach 4th and 5th grade in a tiny community surrounded by winding rivers and vast tundra. We don't have roads, cell phone service, stores or restaurants and time is almost always on our side. It's a dreamlike existence.
